Abstract

In this article Hester Swift (Foreign and International Law Librarian, Institute of Advanced Legal Studies Library) traces the origins of intergovernmental organisations in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and looks at their development as peace-keeping bodies such as the League of Nations. The article is based on a talk given on April 15, 2015 at Senate House Library, to accompany the Senate House Library exhibition, “Duty and Dissent: the Great War and British voices of resistance”.
