Abstract

In this paper Professor Gaetano Armao (Department of European Studies and International Integration, University of Palermo, Italy) gives a thorough exposition of the role of the Prefect in the Italian legal system. He explains the historical background to the role of the Prefect as a link between the central government and the regional government and describes the development of the current role under the latest Italian constitution. Professor Armao provides a valuable guide through the Italian constitutional and legislative maze to explain how this Italian institution works in practice.
