Abstract

The author compares the approaches to access to justice in the English setting over recent years and in Brazil, where there has been a time of expansion and consolidation of its system of legal aid. He explains the role of the Public Defender in Brazil and considers the role of financial eligibility in the scope of legal aid. This article is taken from a presentation made at a lunchtime seminar held at the IALS on 23 October 2014.
