Abstract

Mediating family inheritance disputes is challenging. It places considerable technical demands on the mediator, combined with the additional emotional and psychological strain of mediating with grieving families. Often mediators are addressing the dispute itself and the underlying family conflict. Practitioners in this specialist field need appropriate training and adequate support to enable them to mediate effectively and safely. Drawing upon their own experience as mediator, the author reflects on what this should encompass.
